Paddockwood's story begins in the early 1900s, when Fred Pitts came from England to the lumberland of Canada. He built a log cabin as his home and, from it, set up a post office. On horseback, he collected letters and parcels for the people of the settlement.
Pitts named the settlement Paddockwood after the village he had left behind in England, Paddock Wood in Kent.
After the First World War, Paddockwood became home to the first Red Cross hospital in the British Empire. The community incorporated as a village on January 1, 1949.
Today the village is within the Rural Municipality of Paddockwood No. 520. It has a public library and a nine-hole golf course, the Helbig's Forest Course.
